American Brass Quintet, State of the Art: The ABQ at 50
"GLAST Prelude (excerpt)"
This 2010 album celebrates the 50th anniversary of among the premiere chamber music ensembles in the world, the American Brass Quintet. In keeping with their progressive legacy of premiering new American brass quintets, they chose to celebrate this gold anniversary with a set of new works, including Nolan’s GLAST Prelude—written to celebrate the launch of the Fermi Space Telescope (commissioned by NASA and Stanford University physics department); the piece was performed at the 2008 launch of Fermi at Cape Canaveral, Florida; this work, incidentally, was the initially inspiration for Cosmic Reflection. The CD also includes premieres by Joan Tower, Adam Schoenberg, David Sampson, among others.

The GLAST Prelude in turn was accompanied by a video program created by NASA, unfolding the narrative presented in the quintet. The music video was posted on YouTube, where it garnered over 85,000 views.
